Defense Briefing runs on trust. We collect the minimum information needed to deliver and operate the briefing: your email address, an optional first name, the interest topics you select and limited website analytics when you choose to allow analytics. We never sell, rent or trade your personal information. Sponsors and advertisers never receive our subscriber list. You can unsubscribe with one click in any email, decline analytics without losing access to the site and ask us to delete personal information we hold about you at any time.
Our readers include analysts, investors and professionals in government and industry. We treat the confidentiality of our subscriber list as a security matter, not just a legal one.
This Privacy Policy applies to Defense Briefing ("we," "our" or "us"), an independent defense, aerospace and space economy intelligence publication. It covers our website at defensebriefing.co, our email newsletter (the "Transmissions") and any related services (together, the "Services").

We do not collect and do not want sensitive personal information such as health, biometric or precise location data. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and if we learn we have, we will delete it.
You are only added to our active list after a two-step confirmation. When you sign up, we create a pending record and send a confirmation email with a secure single-use token. Only after you click that link does your subscription become active. Unconfirmed records are retained briefly for anti-abuse purposes and then purged.
We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you.
We use a small number of infrastructure providers who process data on our instructions and are contractually barred from using it for their own purposes:

Some United States public-company profiles contain TradingView market-data widgets. These widgets connect directly to TradingView to display market information. TradingView states that its widgets do not set cookies, but that they receive the URL of the page embedding the widget, the widget type, the displayed symbol and the visitor's IP address for widget operation and basic server protection. TradingView processes that information under its own privacy policy.
If you interact with us on Instagram, X or Facebook (for example commenting a keyword to receive a link by direct message), those platforms process your data under their own privacy policies. Any automated direct-message tools we use operate through the platforms' official interfaces; we receive only what you send us.
Some articles may contain affiliate links, disclosed clearly and conspicuously in line with Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines. Clicking an affiliate link takes you to a third party governed by its own privacy policy; we receive no personal information from the affiliate beyond aggregate conversion data.
We may disclose personal information if required by law, subpoena or court order; to protect the rights, property or safety of Defense Briefing, our readers or others; or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this Policy will continue to apply and you will be notified of any material change.
No internet transmission is ever completely secure. If a breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify affected subscribers and regulators as required by applicable law, and we will do it fast and plainly, consistent with how we issue editorial corrections.
We keep subscriber records while your subscription is active. If you unsubscribe, we retain your address on a suppression list solely to honor your opt-out, as United States law expects. Unconfirmed signups are purged on a rolling basis. Send and delivery logs are kept for operational and compliance purposes and then deleted or anonymized. Aggregated statistics that identify no one may be retained indefinitely. You may request full deletion at any time (see Section 10).
Unsubscribe: every email we send contains a working one-click unsubscribe link, honored immediately, in line with the CAN-SPAM Act.
Access, correction, deletion and portability: regardless of where you live, you may email privacy@defensebriefing.co to ask what information we hold about you, correct it, receive a copy in a portable format or have it deleted. We answer within 30 days and will verify the request came from the email address on file. We extend these rights to all readers voluntarily, whether or not a state or national privacy law grants them to you.
California residents: the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended, grants rights to know, delete, correct and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, with no discrimination for exercising them. We do not sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms, so there is nothing to opt out of; the remaining rights are honored through the contact above.
Nevada residents: we do not sell covered information as defined by Nevada law. You may still register a do-not-sell preference at the contact above.
Readers in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland: Defense Briefing is a United States publication and some service providers process data in the United States or other jurisdictions. Where European or United Kingdom privacy law applies, we rely on consent for non-essential website analytics and on consent or other lawful bases, as applicable, for newsletter services you request. You may refuse analytics and still use the website. You may withdraw analytics consent at any time through the Privacy Choices control in the site footer. You also have applicable rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection through the contact above, and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
Analytics choice: you may choose either "Accept analytics" or "Essential only." Choosing Essential only prevents Google Analytics from loading. Your choice is stored locally in your browser so we can remember it, and we ask again periodically. You can reopen Privacy Choices from the site footer at any time.
Do Not Track and opt-out signals: we do not sell personal information, run behavioral advertising or use cross-site remarketing pixels. Browser privacy signals do not replace the analytics choice described above, but we continue to honor applicable legal requirements for supported opt-out signals.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies, behavioral advertising networks, remarketing pixels or identity-resolution services.
We use local storage to remember your analytics preference so we do not ask on every page. This preference is functional and does not itself send analytics data to Google.
If you choose Accept analytics, Defense Briefing loads Google Tag Manager container GTM-55MSDFKX, which runs our Google Analytics 4 configuration for measurement ID G-M5KPX86KTJ. Google Analytics may set first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_<container-id> to distinguish users and maintain session information. Browsers may shorten cookie lifetimes. Google Analytics reports available to us include aggregated or pseudonymous information such as page views, sessions, referring sources, approximate geography, device/browser characteristics and engagement events.
If you choose Essential only, we do not load Google Tag Manager or Google Analytics and those analytics cookies are not created by Defense Briefing. Advertising-related Google consent categories remain denied because Defense Briefing does not use Google Ads, personalized advertising or remarketing through this implementation.
We understand that many of our readers work in or around national security. Subscriber lists of defense publications are themselves targets. That is why we self-host our subscriber database, keep the vendor surface small, gate the send infrastructure and refuse list sharing categorically. The authoritative subscriber record is stored in our encrypted database. Our email delivery provider necessarily receives the address and message content needed to deliver each email, as described in Section 6. Reading the website does not require a subscription or analytics consent.
When we change this Policy, we will update the date at the top and summarize material changes. For changes that materially affect how we use subscriber information, we will notify active subscribers as appropriate before or when the change takes effect. Where consent is required, continued use of the Services is not treated as consent to non-essential analytics.
